Week 10 – Listening and the Soundscape

I heard the sound of human commentary, the sound of the audience responding, the sound of people talking, the sound of seals barking, the sound of background music (mostly guitars), and the regular tapping of metal. These are human activities. There is a rhythm to the regular banging and guitar in the background, and there is a rhythm to the narration of the announcer. Regarding the activities in the recording, I would like to know in what capacity the person who recorded the recording is recording. Is it the audience? And a seal breeder. I understand the process of making a recording, first holding the recorder in place, putting on listening headphones, and then adjusting the gain. Arter the recording is completed, noise reduction, EQ adjustment and other processing are performed. I think by listening one can understand what elements are in the environment, what activities are going on in the recording, and sometimes the approximate location of the activity.
