Some Thoughts on the Spotify and Bandcamp music Ecosystems5

Spotify’s algorithm and reward system exert invisible pressure on the length of creation and the structure of musical forms, while Bandcamp’s decentralized design provides a more friendly environment for more independent and niche music. However, under the dual pressure of algorithmic dominance and capital centralization, I believe that for marginal voices to persist, platforms, artists and audiences must all change their respective strategies. The platform can retain a portion of random content in the referral stream, not completely following the user’s preference Settings, thus avoiding information limitations caused by algorithms. For artists, they can place the complete experimental content on Bandcamp and post the edited clips on Spotify and TikTok for traffic diversion. From the perspective of the audience, they can take the initiative to explore different styles of music and offer more support to niche artists.
