Week1: Fluid Listening Practice

This week we had about thirty minutes of recording practice. At the beginning, we sat in different spots and used ourselves as a reference point to sense sounds coming from all directions, then drew what we heard. Later, Kristy and I took turns using the Zoom H4 and a hydrophone. We placed the hydrophone into a small fountain to capture the sound of flowing water. The water flow changed between strong and weak, and I adjusted the hydrophone’s position according to those changes. The recordings sometimes sounded like jelly moving softly, and other times they were just clear, transparent water sounds. This experience made me more aware of subtle changes in the environment and the different textures of sound in air and water.
